There will be no shot at The Triple Crown for 2012…
In historically sad news the racehorse I’ll Have Another, winner of the 2012 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, has been scratched from The Belmont due to a leg injury.
The 3-year-old was the favorite to win The Belmont and end the long drought of no Triple Crown Winner.
Trainer Doug O’Neill pulled the horse from the race citing the beginning of a leg injury.
“It’s not tragic, but it’s a huge disappointment,” O’Neill said.
When asked if I’ll Have Another had raced his last race O’Neill responded, “If I had to wager … I would say yes.”
It truly is a disappointing day for O’Neill, owner J. Paul Reddam, the 100,000+ fans expected to attend The Belmont, and race fans everywhere.
