Preakness Stakes

The post positions and opening race odds are out for the 2015 Preakness Stakes field.

This year a small but deep field will battle it out in the 13th race at Pimlico on Saturday, May 16th.

Favorite and Kentucky Derby winner American Pharoah gets the #1 gate which hasn’t produced a winner in the Preakness since 1986. We’ll find out Saturday if jockey Victor Espinoza can break the streak and keep the 2015 Triple Crown dream alive.

This race looks like a Kentucky Derby rematch as five (American Pharoah, Dortmund, Firing Line, Danzig Moon and Mr. Z) of the eight horse field are ready to go again in the Preakness.  The last time all three top Kentucky Derby finishers ran in the Preakness was in 2009.

A noticeable absence from the Preakness field are horses trained by Todd Pletcher.  Materiality, Carpe Diem, Competitive Edge, and Stanford all are being held from the Preakness to potentially be ready for the Belmont Stakes.
