Since 1978 eleven three year olds have won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, the first two legs of the Triple Crown.
Unfortunately for them The Belmont Stakes and the Triple Crown was beyond their grasps.
Four times the third leg was nearly won with the Triple Crown candidate coming in second. These four horses included… 1989 Sunday Silence, 1997 Silver Charm, 1998 Real Quiet, and most recently Smarty Jones in 2004.
Is it any coincidence that it will be the 12th try in 20{12}? We’ll find out June 9th in New York if the 12th time is the charm for I’ll Have Another.
