It was simple math… Jockey Victor Espinoza’s 3rd attempt times Trainer Bob Baffert’s 4th attempt = American Pharoah the 12th Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Horse Racing winner.
The 37 year drought is over. 3 year old American Pharoah took the early lead and went wire to wire never being challenged as he extended his lead down the stretch to win by five and one-half lengths in a powerful mile and one-half gallop to history.
The noise from the 2015 Belmont Stakes crowd in Elmont, New York was deafening as American Pharoah earned his spot in an elite group of race horses. He was only the 2nd wire to wire winner in the Belmont in the past 30 years.
Congratulations to the owners the Zayat family, Bob Baffert the trainer, and jockey Victor Espinoza. And to American Pharoah who has now been immortalized as the 12th Triple Crown winner.
