American Pharoah Storms to Preakness Win

American PharoahAmerican Pharoah has won the 140th Preakness Stakes. Trainer Bob Baffert is now 4-0 in wins at the Preakness after winning the Kentucky Derby. And in three weeks jockey Victor Espinoza will get his third shot at the Triple Crown.

It was a dark and stormy day in Baltimore, Maryland as the top three horses from the Kentucky Derby prepared to battle it out again in the 2015 Prekaness Stakes. A drenching rain just prior to the running of the 2nd jewel in the Triple Crown created a muddy track and changed Victor Espinoza’s strategy for the race. He decided to take the early lead to avoid having to run with mud in his face. And, that new strategy paid off as American Pharoah stormed out to an easy 7 lengths victory.

The other two top finishers from the Derby, Dortmund and Firing Line, never were in it as Ahmed Zayat’s horse had an authoritative win. Two long shots briefly teased us but American Pharoah was just too powerful.

Preakness Stakes Results

1. American Pharoah
2. Tale of Verve
3. Divining Rod
4. Dortmund
5. Mr. Z
6. Danzing Moon
7. Firing Line
8. Bodhisattva

Once again we have another shot at a Triple Crown winner. For the 14th time since 1978 and the 3rd American Pharoahtime in 4 years (California Chrome in 2014 and I’ll Have Another in 2012) we have both a Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner.

The Belmont is nicknamed the “True Test of a Champion” for a reason…

A. It’s is the longest of the Triple Crown races.
B. It’s the 3rd race in a grueling 5 week period.
C. American Pharoah will face several tough horses that skipped the Preakness and should be fresher.

We can’t wait to see what happens June 6th in Elmont, New York!
